I had hoped that a 2-week holiday to the Silk Road in China would have added interesting food to this month's eats. But we found that the Silk Road Food was often too chilli-hot, too oily and too salty - without adding much flavour to them. There was also not much variety, but one shouldn't miss the roast lamb in Ürümqi, After days of this "heaty" together with the hot and dusty weather, some of us fell sick. Nevertheless, I post here the food we had for future recalling.

Full-cream Milk Ice-cream, Tianchi Lake Souvenir Shop (天池旅游纪念品商店) - 11th May

This was the first time we tried this creamy ice cream on a stick. Found it to be very creamy and nice. Later at the highway rest stops we would go looking out for it!

Grassland Milk Ice-cream at ALL THE WAY SHOPPING at Highway Rest-stop - 11th May

Another round of the ice-cream, according to a friend, the translation of the word on the wrapper meant "Grassland Milk Ice-Cream". This one from the rest-stop shop called "All the Way Shopping"; guess what the girls did - Shop All the Way!

Dinner at Xinxin Fuhai Fish Restaurant (欣欣富海鱼庄) - 11th May

There were 23 of us in the tour group, and we usually spit ourselves to two tables with 11 and 12 pax respectively. But this restaurant had prepared a huge table for us, one that could sit 30 pax! Just for note, at most of the restaurants here, the central carousel is motorised and slowly rotates. But for this huge table, with its larger carousel, it took a while for the food to rotate to all!

Tea: Lamian (Pulled Noodles) at a Specialty Shop in Dunhuang - 17th May

Wasn't that great, in flavour. Also, they couldn't handle a larger crowd like ours (23pax) well enough. There were confusion in processing the order. Pricing does not reflect what's shown on the pix menu. Only one small piece of meat was given if want more than it;s extras. After hearing the guide tell us not to use the toilet of this restaurant; I would have second thoughts about eating here.

This one is a bit funny, with very odd name of the 2nd drink.

Dinner at restaurant of our yurt stay, Kaoshan Daying Guesthouse in Linze - 19th May

Food was okay, but seem over-priced. Felt like we were slaughtered as we were a captured market. Also when asked to add soup to the hot-pot, unlike in Malaysia, they just added boiled water!

The breakfast at this hotel was one of the best as they served a good range of Western Fare too!

Enjoyed another nice breakfast here again. Today no Portobello mushrooms but had their speciality pan-cakes one more time.

A simple lunch before flying back to KL; will transit in Changsha.
